It is painful to see someone we love struggling or hurting. Most of us will feel the need to offer advice or to fix the problem.
While it might sometimes seem helpful, it is important to keep in mind that we need to be sensitive to what they truly want in the moment, since it can be all too easy to get carried away and say or do more than is really needed.
Allowing ourselves to let go of this need and simply allow ourselves to be present with this person may actually provide a greater amount of comfort and support than we could ever imagine.
Being present helps us give the part of ourselves that is capable of the greatest amount of compassionβopen ears, asking the right questions and an understanding heart.
Learning these coaching skills will help you increase your therapeutic presence.
