Intellectual learning primarily involves acquiring knowledge through cognitive processes such as reading, studying, listening, and observing. It emphasizes the theoretical understanding of concepts and ideas, acquisition and assimilation of information, facts, and theories. It aims to develop analytical and logical thinking skills. Schools provide us mostly with intellectual learning.
Experiential learning on the other hand, focuses on the active engagement in real-life experiences to acquire knowledge and skills. It emphasizes learning through direct involvement, reflection, and practice, therefore promoting active engagement and motivation for learning. Experiential learning is very sensory-based and involves both left and right brain. You'll be surprised to know that meditation too enhances experiential learning. Meditation can deepen self-awareness by allowing individuals to observe their thoughts, emotions, and sensations without judgment. This experiential understanding of one's internal processes can lead to personal insights and a greater and deeper understanding of oneself. Through regular meditation practice and experiencing it's calming effects, individuals gain insights to their own stress responses, experience the mind-body relationship, and gain wisdom to end suffering. It is normal to see subjects become emotional upon gaining meaningful wisdom during meditation.
